I only wanted the air filter to last a bit longer

When I realized how expensive air filters were, I thought there had to be a way to make them last a bit longer.

I tried to find alternative brands of air filters that would fit as well as the ones I received from the HVAC company.

I even thought that I could buy an air filter that was said to be able to sized by the HVAC owner. That was one of the worst things I ever did because I ended up destroying the air filter and I couldn’t use it. I was told that if I bought the air filters in bulk, that it would be much cheaper. It was cheaper to buy in bulk, but it was a big investment I had to put out to save money. I tried to wash the air filter. It looked sturdy and I really didn’t think that hot water and soap would destroy it. It wasn’t like I put high pressure water onto the air filter and it was just a small pan of hot water. I didn’t even let the air filter soak in the water. I simply placed it in the hot soapy water and began to swish it around. I could see the dirt coming out and settling into the bottom of the tub. I was thinking I was making some progress until I saw some fibers from the air filter, also floating in the water. I pulled up the air filter and it looked fine from the outside, but I could see some of the material that was inside, coming out through the hole in the screen. After ten minutes, I tossed out the water and the air filter and I went to the home center.
