Aged heat pump can’t keep up with Wintertide weather

A little over 5 years ago, my hubby in addition to I moved down south; The two of us obtained a small lake house with a lovely view of a lake surrounded by palm trees.

The lake house is heated in addition to cooled with an older heat pump.

The heat pump is seriously innovative in that the single unit handles both heating in addition to cooling; It runs on electricity, in addition to there’s no combustion process, and rather than burn fossil fuels to generate heat, the system moves existing heat from one location to another. In the summer, it pulls heat from inside the lake house in addition to uses refrigerant to transfer it outdoors. No matter how tepid the outdoor temperature, it keeps the lake house perfectly cool. The heat pump is also quite great at handling excess humidity; Despite the age of the heat pump, we’ve found it to be reliable in addition to energy efficient. During the milder weather, the system draws from the ambient heat in the outdoor air, compresses it to a higher temperature in addition to supplies it inside. In our local area, the outdoor temperature rarely drops below forty degrees. The heat pump has no problem keeping up with the needs of our little house… Unluckyly, every once in a while, we get hit with an uncorrect frigid snap, then when below cold temperatures arrive, our outdated heat pump struggles. Modern heat pumps have become decreasingly effective, no matter the weather. We’ve considered replacing our system but the cost of a modern heat pump is astronomical. There’s correctly only a few weeks per year that we’re faced with such dire weather. My hubby in addition to I obtained a small electric oil furnace that resembles a wood burning stove. It provides enough heat to make up for the inadequacies of the heat pump.
