Got a smart thermostat the hard way

I don’t really know why my husband can be so resistant when it comes to listening to a good idea.

That’s for sure what happened with the HVAC equipment upgrade that I suggested years ago. When the smart thermostat came out, I was like, what’s not too love? HVAC technology that helps maintain the heating and cooling of the house without the need for our input sounded good. The fact that it saved a ton in HVAC heating and cooling costs was even better. Yet, when I suggested this idea, my husband said he wanted to wait to let the HVAC technology further develop. That was a go to excuse and I knew it then. But it’s also steady logic so he knew I couldn’t necessarily say anything. That was particularly true after I demanded that Tivo machine back in the day. So I brought it up again and got the same sort of vague no. Well, I kept pushing him about the smart thermostat and so he figured out how to program the digital thermostat we’ve had for 15 years. Again, another clever ploy to avoid buying the new HVAC technology. But thanks to my college age sons coming home for spring break, I finally got the smart thermostat. Just not the way I would have expected. A perfect but errant spiral ended up completely destroying the old thermostat. So I had the green light to call the HVAC company and get the smart thermostat finally. My husband was classy about it and acknowledged the well played move.
