Breakups are never easy for people to handle, and this is especially true when expensive items are involved. I had to go through this process a few months ago when my girlfriend and I had decided to call it quits after being together for three years. We had purchased literally everything in the house together, so there was no clear way of knowing who deserved to keep what. The very first thing that both of us said we wanted was the heating and cooling unit. We had purchased this unit a year ago and it was truly worth every penny that it cost us. The house was always perfectly cool during the summer, and the unit was very energy efficient. I tried to convince her to let me keep the unit since i was the one who installed it, but she wasn’t going for that excuse at all. After many hours of debate she proposed that we decide who gets the heating and cooling unit the old fashioned way, but flipping a coin. If it lands on heads, the unit is mine. If the coin lands on tails, the unit is hers. It turns out that the HVAC heating and cooling gods were not on my side that day, and my girlfriend had won the coin toss. To be honest I don’t know what will be more difficult for me in the long run, finding another heating and cooling unit with the same quality as this one, or finding another girlfriend. I think that I will need a bit of luck in both aspects.
