I can admit, I need a very particular set of conditions for me to be a productive human being.
For as long as I can remember, I have been very easily distracted from my work by the external stimulations around me.
If there is a lot of noise in my environment, I cannot focus. If there is a lot of activity going on around me, I would much rather stare at the moving objects than a computer screen. If there are uneven temperature conditions in the environment where I am trying to work, I might as well pack up my things and go back to bed. I absolutely cannot focus when I am dealing with unpleasant indoor air conditions. I am equally unhappy if the indoor air temperature is too high or too low. When I am shivering in my seats, dealing with numb fingers and toes, however, my work gets extremely challenging to complete. This is why I have been attached at the hip to a powerful space heater for the past several weeks. I realized a while ago that my central heating, cooling, and air quality control system is not powerful enough to keep my entire house at an even temperature. There are always fluctuating hot and cold patches no matter what room you are in. I have tried to insulate my house and to improve my heating, cooling, and ventilation equipment, but the temperature discrepancies have continued. That’s when I finally bought a simple space heater online and decided that this alternate heating device is my savior. At this point, I won’t go anywhere in the house without my portable heating device… but I’m very tired of getting burnt.
